Spring Mantel

First off, I have to say I am not as behind on the “spring mantel” as you might think. I have had it decorated like this for a while, but have just been taking my sweet time writing a post about it. With that said………
(above photo of where I bought everything! decorative ball: garage sale, moss rocks: dollar tree, moss letter (I made), basket: garage sale, blanket: target, and glass vases with lids: Ross!) (Below photo: Lanters: Ross, moss: dollar tree, candles: Ross, and fake flower boquet: dollar tree)

I love love looooove my new mantel! With it done, I feel like the main part of the house is finally complete! (thank goodness!). I won’t lie, I kinda, I completely stole the idea from the amazing Layla Palmer over at the Lettered Cottage. (thank you Layla!)
When I first moved in, the fireplace was a regular ol’ gas fireplace, with some “not-so-pleasant” tile, with a lovely sheetroc surround (hence the sarcasm?). Mmmm, not my style.
Not to mention, there was this HUGE awkward hole right above the fireplace, where a bubble tv would fit. We have a flat screen tv that would never fit back there. I originally just wanted to sheetroc over it, but realized that could get too messy and spendy.
When I came across the very affordable, yet stylish mantel redo that Layla did, I knew I had to have the same!

(and if you know me well, you know that once I have made up my mind on something, I have to have it, and there is no talking me out of it…..dad).
The mantel was super easy peasy to do, and so cheap! I will post soon a step-by-step tutorial on how I put it together. Also I plan on doing a tutorial on how I made the REAL SIZED pottery barn mirror, and the REAL SIZED pottery barn moss covered letters! I got some great finds at garage sales, Ross, and the dollar store that just added the final touches to the mantel. I got my Pottery Barn mantel for uber cheap, and I luuuurve it! Hope you do to!

So BEAUTIFUL! I can’t wait to see your step by steps on how to make the mirror!
Am I missing the tutorial on making the mirror! Checking daily to find that!
Yes, if you go back to the main page of my blog, and scroll down until you see “how to eagan mirror” its the second to last entry posted on my blog! thanks for looking!

I will be doing a tutorial on how I did the mantel, and plan on including the final price. (I have to sit down with my receipts and figure it out, but I know it wasn’t much.) Im “guessing” $60?? But I will know for sure in a few days when I do the tutorial, so keep your eye out for that!

Great information! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while now. Thanks!
Hi! I discovered you on Pink Postcard’s feature of your beautiful Spring Mantel. I wrote a little tid bit about Pinterest and wanted you to know I mentioned your mantel as something I have “pinned.” Hope you’re having a great day! Hope you stop by for a visit.
The mantel/fireplace is beautiful! Copied or not, you did a fantastic job. I have a large bricked fireplace that’s just screaming for a makeover such as this. Thanks for the inspiration.
I’m having a tiny problem I can’t seem to be able to subscribe your feed, I’m using google reader by the way.
My blog is about Healthy recipes.
Fantastic post. Great.
Cool blog!
I love your fireplace makeover! I want to do the same thing to my gas fireplace, but wasn’t sure how a scaled down version would look. Thanks!
We have the same fireplace and love what you did to yours. Do you have the tutorial up yet?
Do you have a post on how to make the moss letter? You said in the post you will have a “hoe to make one” but I dont see it.
I love the mantel! What color and type of stain did you use to finish it? Hoping to do something similar in my house and love the color you used there!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE dark walnut stain. I use it everywhere and it looks great on pine. I just bought a 1×8 pine board with knots (the knottier the better) Then just beat it up a bit and then stain it. The stain will really latch onto the beat up parts which helps give it some depth. I hope this helps and best of luck on your project!
Thanks! We ended up using dark walnut as well.
Still a work in progress. Hope to have it done soon!
Did you ever post the fireplace tutorial? I love the new fireplace you created!
I came across the photo of your mantel on Pinterest…love it, and was wondering if you have the link for the step-by-step tutorial you said you were going to post. I have tried to find it here but have been unsuccessful. I am hoping to do mine in the very near future.
Amanda…..LOVE your mantel!!! I can’t find your tutorial link on how you put that together. I have to have this!! Very impressed!!
